Suspension in Gray

Suspension in Gray | The Sunny Porch

This original work by Anna Marie Harrington, copyright 2019, has become the icon of our organization. The caged bird represents the confinement one feels when living with mental illness..

This piece resonates with many of the people Anna Marie knew and also with many that she did not know. We all can relate to this beautiful little bird and have things in our lives which represent to us a feeling of being held back. Perhaps its addiction, medical illness, physical or other mental challenges, or perhaps simply a circumstance in our life that makes us feel restricted. The artist  does a sublime job of expressing this feeling of limitation.

We have adopted this image as our most prized work. The artist behind the founding of the Sunny Porch inspired us to use the  free bird and sun for our branding in representation of a place of recovery. We would like to help others find their sunny porches in life and understand that living with limitations is not a death sentence. Rather, that a full life is not only a right but also attainable.
